Bandon Dunes is joining the World Golf Tour. WGT.com is an online golf game where you can play the world’s best golf courses. We would like to get feedback from our guests on which par-3s to include in the digital golf course.

Bandon Dunes hosted the Inaugural Speedgolf World Championships and it is scheduled to air on CBS on April 13th (right before the Masters). The event consisted of 45 amateurs and 15 professionals who were competing for a $50K purse. The professional field competed in a 2-day event at Old Macdonald (Oct. 20) and Bandon Dunes (Oct. 21), while the amateurs only ran on Oct. 21 at Bandon Dunes.

A 13-hole par-3 course, Bandon Preserve was built on the land adjacent to the No. 1 tee at Bandon Trails. With ocean views from every hole, the course routes down towards the Pacific Ocean.

The field is limited to ... (read more)]]> Bandon Dunes is proud to announce the Inaugural Three-Club Championship at Old Macdonald on Nov. 14, 2011. Battling it out will be 42 two-man teams with each player utilizing just three clubs each in a best-ball format in net and gross divisions.

The field is limited to the first 84 players who register for play, so we encourage you to call reservations (800.742.0172) to book your place in what is sure to be an incredibly fun and unique event.

Players check in at 8 a.m. at Old Macdonald and receive a tee gift commemorating the event. The practice area will be open for warm-up at that time. Twenty-one foursomes will begin play at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start. Lunch and awards follow at 1 p.m. at the Old Macdonald practice green (weather permitting), where winners will be named in both net and gross divisions. Open play on Old Macdonald is available at no charge after lunch.

The cost for the tournament is $150 per person and includes tournament entry, lunch, awards, tee gift and open play at Old Macdonald after lunch. Players are encouraged to register as a twosome.

At Bandon Dunes, we work very hard to provide the best possible experience. Whether you’re on the golf course, eating dinner in our restaurants or having a drink in the pub, we pride ourselves on exceptional service. There’s a philosophy that we tend to live by at Bandon Dunes – great golf, great food and great drink make for an exceptional experience. I would like to share with you a few wine recommendations to try at home. These recommendations should appease every price range and palate.

King Estate Domaine Pinot Gris – This local Oregon winery bottles our private label Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. In 2007, I tasted the pinot gris in a blind taste test against many other pinot gris’ from around the state. I chose the King Estate. In 2010, I had the same experience during a similar taste test. The fruity wine has tremendous balance with great acidity. I often judge a wine by asking if the wine needs to be paired with food. With this wine, it stands on its own. If you were to pair it with a meal, I would suggest any seafood including oysters, shrimp and crab.

Joseph Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeort Marquis de Laguiche – In 1982, I got into the restaurant business and began working at an Italian restaurant in Las Vegas. After the restaurant closed each night, the chef, who was from Lyon, France, would open French and Italian wines and introduced me to an entirely new world of wine. This chardonnay is my favorite white wine in the world. It’s rich, elegant, exotic, beautiful and its consistent flavor is unmatched. This wine is a memory maker – meaning that you’ll remember where you were when you tried this wine for the first time. Whatever you’re doing, this will magnify the experience. Enjoy!

Domaine Drouhin Cuvee Louise – Here at Bandon Dunes, we get this wine direct from the winery.  To be honest, any of the four tiers of pinot noirs produced from Domaine Drouhin are fantastic, however, I tend to lean towards the Louise. All of the levels of Domaine Drouhin are available here at Bandon Dunes. This pinot noir has backbone, structure and depth. Although no food is needed, I suggest enjoying this wine with a salmon burger with fresh sliced tomatoes and wasabi cream cheese (chef recommends).

Domaine Serene Winery Hill Vineyard – I’ll end this blog entry with a wine that I tried for the first time two months ago that has quickly become the best pinot noir that I have ever tasted. Located in Dayton, OR, the 2006 Domaine Serene pinot noir is a delight. From the first scent, I was excited. The aromas ignited so many scents and the tasted backed up my excitement. It starts with dark, rich Oregon cherry and transforms into the smokiness of cedar, cigar and oak. It’s intensity is something that I didn’t expect.

In the end, I always tell people to drink what you think tastes good and drink it with a special friend or loved one. You’ll enjoy the experience so much more and remember where you were when you were drinking your favorite wine – hopefully here at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

People often ask me if Bandon Dunes has a VIP Program – where certain guests would receive a special amount of attention, amenities and services. My answer: Yes, we do – and every guest is already enrolled in the program. The truth is – we strive to treat every guest like a VIP. Whether you’ve flown halfway across the world on a
private jet – or you’ve saved up money for months to make the voyage to Bandon Dunes – all of our guests will be treated with the same amount of respect and courtesy. Our goal is to provide an experience that will create long-lasting and fond memories for years to come.

And that commitment to delivering memories and exceptional customer service starts with the people that work at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. From the shuttle drivers, wait staff, course rangers to our caddies, everyone at the Resort is a tremendous person who has a natural, “built-in” friendly bone. Their friendliness is never taught or forced – they are naturally genuine, helpful and friendly people.

When our guests arrive at the Resort, they are immediately transplanted to a place that strives to deliver a golf experience that is “Golf as it’s meant to be.”

Here are a few helpful tips for experiencing Bandon Dunes to its fullest:

• Play all four courses – In order to experience the diversity that the four courses offer, I always encourage everyone to play all four courses at the Resort. For me, the courses are like my children – I love them all equally.
• Take a caddy – Our caddies are the ambassadors of the Resort. Their knowledge of the courses and outgoing personalities will only add to your enjoyment to the golf courses.
• Visit the labyrinth – Located on a hiking trail behind the Chrome Lake lodges, the labyrinth will be a nice change of pace and one of the most peaceful locations on property. The front desk can give you a map on how to get to the labyrinth – it’s worth the 10-minute walk.
• Use the practice facility and play Shorty’s – Playing links golf is a very different type of golf that requires playing low shots that use the contours of the ground and cut the wind – Hone some of your links shots on our vast practice facility and take the time to play Shorty’s – our par-3, nine-hole course at the practice facility. Your game will thank you.
• Eat, drink and be merry – Indulge in the delicious food, sample some of our vast scotch and wine offerings and sit back and relax.
• If you have a request, ask – When I arrived at Bandon Dunes more than 11 years ago, I immediately realized that, within reason, Bandon Dunes doesn’t like to say “no.” We do our very best not to inundate our guests with rules and stipulations. If a guest needs something, we’ll do our best to accommodate their need.
