Is this the same as the Links Championship?
The Bandon Dunes Cup is similar to the Links Championship but has slightly different formats. The BD Cup is 72-holes over three days. As with all of our events, we expect them to fill right away.
What formats are being played in the BD Cup?
The Bandon Dunes Cup will be an fourball – scramble – foursome – fourball event. Fourball is also known as best ball. Scramble is playing the best shot of the team. Foursome is an alternate shot between partners.
How is the field determined?
The field will be the first paid 60 teams. Those teams will then be split into six flights based upon team indexes with 10 teams each.
Do I have to have a USGA Index?
Players wanting to compete in the “net” divisions must have a valid USGA index. If you do not have an index, you will be entered as a “scratch” golfer.
What indexes are used?
The tournament will be using your May 1st, 2017 USGA revision to determine flights. Players will get 90% of their handicap for the fourball format. The scramble handicap is determined by adding the ‘A’ player, who will receive 35% of their handicap and the ‘B’ player who will receive 15%. The foursomes will be 50% of the combined course handicap.
Is there a maximum index allowed?
Yes – the maximum index will be 24.0 per player. Any player over a 24.0 will be adjusted down to a 24.0.
What is my course rotation?
The course rotation is determined by what flight you are playing in and is unknown at this point. Fourball formats will be played on Pacific Dunes and Old Macdonald. Bandon Dunes will be the scramble course and Bandon Trails will be foursomes.
What do the winners receive?
Winners of the event will receive a payout in the form of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort gift cards.
Will there be a skins game?
There will be an optional, daily skins game that will be paid in cash. It will be flight based.
Can I use a distance measuring device?
Yes – players can use a rangefinder or other distance measuring device as long as it does not calculate elevation yardages.
What happens in the event of a tie?
If you are tied for the overall winner, we will have a playoff. Time and start, to be determined. If you are tied within your flight we will have a scorecard tiebreaker. Tie breaker format will be fourball.
